Sonia I. Ocaña Ruiz received her Ph.D. in Art History from Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (2011). She is a Professor at the History department of Universidad Juárez Autónoma de Tabasco. Her primary field of interest is the impact of Japanese, Chinese, and European Asian style art in Colonial Mexico in the 17th and 18th centuries. She is the autor, among others, of “Nuevas reflexiones sobre las pinturas incrustadas de concha y el trabajo de Juan y Miguel González” (Anales del Instituto de Investigaciones Estéticas, 35, n. 102, 2013).
